Special Awareness Session by ISRO at Shanmuganathan Engineering College
A special awareness session on behalf of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Mahendragiri, was held at Shanmuganathan Engineering College, Arasambatti, Tirumayam, on Friday, September 26.
The event was organized as part of the initiative to reach out to the public and educational institutions about the advancements in space science and technology, as the World Space Week is celebrated annually from October 4 to October 10.
Dr. Varadharajan, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, welcomed everyone to the ISRO awareness event organized by Shanmuganathan Engineering College. Scientists Mr.Kamal and Mr.Balasundaram from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Mahendragiri, participated and spoke at the event.
During his address, ISRO Scientist Mr.Balasundaram stated:
"India is achieving great feats globally in the field of space research. Our government is successfully implementing various schemes for space exploration. The satellites sent by ISRO play a vital role in providing us with various modern amenities, supporting our nation's development across different sectors, and offering early warning information to protect us from natural disasters.
There are numerous opportunities for engineering students to work in ISRO. Everyone should utilize these opportunities and come forward to achieve even greater milestones in India's space sector.
Today, the world watches our space achievements with awe.
We are growing in the space sector on par with developed nations. Our space department is planning for numerous new achievements and is diligently working on various projects towards that. Our current level of development in the space sector is solely due to the hard work of the researchers working there and the cooperation of our government.
So far, our ISRO has successfully launched 432 spacecraft belonging to 34 countries.Indian astronaut Subhanshu Shukla participated in the Axiom-4 mission, successfully completing an 18-day journey to the International Space Station (ISS) in July 2025. This journey earned Shukla the distinction of being the first Indian astronaut to visit the International Space Station and the second Indian to travel to space after Rakesh Sharma's mission in 1984. Engineering students should come forward to join ISRO's successful journey, which is a source of such great pride."
The event was attended by fourth-year students from all departments of the college, along with department heads and professors. Dr. Mohan, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
