• A national-level conference on the theme "Recent Trends in Engineering and Technology" was held on May 10 (Saturday) at our Shanmuganathan Engineering College.
  • The conference was inaugurated with a warm welcome by Dr. Mohan, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the coordinator of the event. Mr. Pichappa, Director (Administration) of the college, presided over the function. Dr. KL. Muthuramu, Principal of the college, delivered the keynote address.
  • The chief guest, Dr. P. Ashok, Senior Professor from MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, delivered a special address. In his speech, he stated:
  • Science is not something new to India, especially to Tamil society. Even during the times of Tholkappiyar, Valluvar, and Avvaiyar, many scientific facts were embedded in poetry and literature. Ancient Tamils lived with a strong sense of morality and scientific knowledge, united by the universal spirit expressed in the saying ‘Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir’ (All towns are ours, all people are our kin).
  • Tamil culture has always been research-oriented. It was the Tamils who first introduced iron culture to the world. Many scientific truths recorded by ancient Tamils were later presented to the world by Westerners as new inventions.
  • To cultivate a research mindset, everyone must learn extensively, engage in discussions, and disseminate knowledge among the masses. This great mission was already undertaken by the ancient Tamil Sangam. Therefore, our Tamil society must give high importance to research activities and enhance our efforts toward innovations in engineering.
  • Today, India stands tall in the world due to its scientific knowledge and groundbreaking discoveries. Our satellite technology has amazed the world, and we are advancing significantly in science and technology.
  • India is a country rich in human resources and youth power. With over 40% of the workforce here, if we harness this young energy properly, there is no doubt that India will become a global superpower.”
  • More than 60 research papers were presented by engineering students from various districts including Madurai, Sivagangai, Thanjavur, Ramanad Pudukkottai, and Trichy. Subject-wise best papers were selected and cash prizes were awarded.
  • The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Saravanakumar, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. A large number of students, faculty members, and professors from various engineering colleges across Tamil Nadu participated in the conference.
