• NSS Volunteers of Shanmuganathan Engineering College Spruce Up Devakottai Nagara Shivan Temple.
  • In a commendable display of social responsibility, over 20 student volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Shanmuganathan Engineering College, Thirumayam, conducted a massive cleanliness drive at the historic Nagara Sivan Temple in Devakottai on April 5, 2026.
  • The drive was organized based on the principle that maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of public habitats and spiritual centers is a fundamental duty of every citizen. With the objective of promoting environmental health and preserving heritage sites, the students arrived at the temple early in the morning to begin their labor of love
  • Working under the systematic guidance of the temple administration, the volunteers were split into specialized teams. The scope of their work included:
  • De-silting and Dusting: Clearing years of accumulated dust and cobwebs from the intricate temple corridors
  • Vegetation Clearance: Uprooting wild shrubs, weeds, and invasive plants that had sprouted along the stone masonry and compound walls.
  • Premises Refurbishment:.A thorough cleaning of the temple floorings and surrounding walkways, restoring a sense of serenity and "newness" to the ancient structure.
  • The entire program was coordinated under the leadership of Mr.K. Perumal, the College NSS Program Officer.
  • The temple authorities and visiting devotees expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the students. "It is heartening to see the younger generation taking such a proactive interest in maintaining our cultural landmarks," said a regular devotee.
  • The temple management praised the students' discipline and their commitment to community service, noting that such efforts significantly aid in the upkeep of local heritage.
